Join us this summer for an August weekend event which celebrates the launch of Campfire Convention - my new social network and event, due to launch this summer.
I believe that there is a desire for a new community, led by its members which can grow into a vibrant ecosystem where people can come together to share common interests, passions, ethics and motivations, whether related to work or play. We aim to provide an environment where members can facilitate personal and social change, free of many of the restrictions and machinations associated with commercial interests.
Campfire aims to put on a series of events, inspired and co-ordinated by its members, ranging from one night debates through to weekend jamborees.
The launch of a new social network will take place in 2016 alongside a new style of camping weekend, built around the inspiration of campfire, storytelling, networking and sharing knowledge in beautiful rural or coastal locations for 500 max people taking place between late May and mid September.
Campfire Convention 001.UK takes place in the beautiful spot in the Golden Valley on the English side of The Black Mountains (just a few miles from the original and inspirational first Big Chill Gala event which created history 21 years ago) and utilises one of the most spectacular pub settings in the UK, surrounded by a stream and open fields leading to the Cat's Back and the foothills leading to Offa's Dyke.
Come and experience and contribute to a lively mix of talks, debates, workshops and discussions, with a Saturday evening knees up with live music and DJs. The pub will be open throughout the weekend, serving a wide range of locally produced food, along with beers, ciders as well as the usual range of wines, spirits and softs. Arrival on the camp ground will be permitted from daytime Friday, with the main events taking place on Saturday followed by relaxed Sunday sessions. Keynote speaker Brian Eno joins a music line-up that includes English roots fusioneers Edward II, guitar wizard Adrian Legg, US musicians Anna and Elizabeth and dynamic folksters Will Pound and Eddy Jay as well as broadside ballad singer Jennifer Reid.
Our panels and workshops cover a wide range of topical issues, from Universal Basic Income to digital democracy, last life quarter to protest and counterculture. Our Homemade Activists panel with bring together three heroes of the refugee crisis who are doing their bit in the face of widespread apathy and red tape from the authorities.
The web community aims, like a traditional campfire gathering, to encourage members to tell their story, celebrate song, discuss issues of the day, explore new possibilities, start a movement, showcase work and ideas, formulate campaign ideas, chase dreams or find out what’s going on in the world. Or just chill.
Those gathering around the Campfire will be empowered to contribute, enthuse and energise the wider community to help make the sparks ignite and to join together in creating a ground-breaking new style of event which is designed to evolve organically into multi-faceted weekends staged and curated by the community itself.
